Bridget was found by a Caltrans worker out on the Dumbarton bridge -- way out in the San Francisco Bay. With 81,000 vehicles whizzing past daily and no food, it's amazing this little girl survived. She was found dehydrated and starving, and worse, with injuries to the sides of her mouth, particularly on the left side. The vet said her wounds were typical of a "stuck collar" -- gashes caused by a collar stuck in the mouth. Bridget must have somehow managed to chew through, or work out from the stuck collar, finally (the collar was not found), but not without cuts to the sides of her mouth. Why was she out there on the Dumbarton with a stuck collar? One possible explanation is that someone could have been trying to restrain her by holding her by the collar, and she slipped part-way out of the collar and jumped away. But we'll never really know the whole story.
Bridget is happy now to have all the food she wants in foster care and of course no collar (she'll have a microchip instead). She's a very sweet little cat who purrs and "makes biscuits" in the air. Her eyes are beautiful! She's got a funny, gruff little voice and likes to talk a lot -- she's really quite expressive. Of course, she's enjoying her food and putting weight back on. She'll be fine, as her wounds are healing nicely, and soon she'll be ready to go to her forever home. Bridget is now coming to the adoption fairs, so you may be able to meet her during the weekend fairs; you can also fill out an adoption application for her anytime online.
Please note:
- Bridget needs a playmate in her new home
